Talimena National Scenic Byway
This Scenic Byway takes you through the Ouachita National Forest. For 54 miles along OK-1, this route dips and swirls along a ridge line in eastern Oklahoma, and is the highest point in elevation between the Appalachians and the Rockies. There's 22 viewing vistas, and the ride offers continuous curves while the route twists around slopes and mountain tops.
Whichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge
This east/west route takes you through Whichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge southwest of Oklahoma City. There's a few nice curves to work, but mostly some wide open vast stretches of Oklahoma country scenery. The road is nicely paved and riders will find very little traffic. The refuge provides a habitat for large native grazing animals such as bison, elk, and white-tailed deer, so there are plenty of opportunities to see wildife on this route. Just watch out for those bison!
Route 271, 144, Indian Hwy (39 miles)
This is a great ride with hardly any traffic, so you can go at your own pace. About as scenic a ride as you can find in all of Oklahoma. Pick up this route from Talihina. There are amazing curves and elevation changes. Further south is more great riding into Bethel along Route 144. There are a lot of nice curves and hills with nice views of tall trees and distant valleys and mountains.
