The Ride Experience

If you’re looking for a ride that’s pure therapy, Route 9 is it. Starting near the First State National Historic Park, this road trades the interstate traffic for a peaceful, winding journey through Delaware’s marshlands and farmlands. It’s not a “peg-scraper” where you’re fighting the bike; instead, it offers a gentle, rhythmic flow that lets you actually look around and enjoy the scenery.

• Pavement Quality: Generally smooth asphalt, but keep an eye out for “tar snakes” (rubber crack filler) that can get a little greasy on those humid Delaware summer days.

The Ride Experience

If you want to feel the salt air and see the ocean, this is your route. The Delaware Coastal Highway is a straight-shot ride that takes you right through the heart of the state’s famous beach towns like Rehoboth and Dewey. It’s less about the “lean” and more about the atmosphere. You’ll ride on a thin strip of land with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Rehoboth Bay on the other.

It’s an easy, relaxing ride that eventually leads you down into Maryland’s Ocean City. If you’ve been hitting technical twisties all day and just want a scenic cool-down with some great food stops, this is the place to be.

• Pavement Quality: Excellent. Since this is a major state artery, the asphalt is usually top-tier and smooth.
• The “View” Factor: You’ll pass through the Delaware Seashore State Park. Keep an eye out for the Indian River Inlet Bridge—it’s a massive cable-stayed bridge that offers a killer view as you cross over the water.

The Ride Experience

The run from Camden down to Redden State Forest is the perfect “connector” route. If you’re heading south toward the beaches but want to skip the stop-and-go traffic of the freeway, this is your escape hatch. The ride is characterized by long, open stretches of scenic farmland and massive sky views.

While Delaware isn’t known for mountains, DE-15 offers some surprising, lazy sweepers that allow you to maintain a steady, relaxed pace. It eventually leads you into the dense, wooded tracts of Redden State Forest, where the air temperature usually drops a few degrees—a welcome relief in the peak of summer.

• Pavement Quality: Solid. DE-15 is a well-maintained secondary road, but keep an eye out for slow-moving farm equipment pulling onto the road from hidden driveways.
• The “View” Factor: The highlight is arriving at Redden State Forest. It’s the largest state forest in Delaware, and the historic 1903 hunting lodge (originally built for Pennsylvania Railroad executives) makes for a great photo op.

The Ride Experience

If you’re tired of the flat, straight roads of lower Delaware, this loop is your escape. This route feels less like a highway and more like a private driveway through a massive estate. You’ll find some of the best “fast sweepers” in the region, mixed with technical sections that will actually test your cornering lines.

The road follows the Brandywine Creek, meaning it twists and turns with the water. One minute you’re leaning through a tight, shaded canopy on Route 82, and the next, the road opens up into rolling hills and massive countryside manors. It’s a short loop, but the northern section of the loop is one of the best motorcycle rides in Pennsylvania .

• Pavement Quality: Mixed. Route 100 is generally smooth, but Route 82 (Creek Rd) can be narrow and lacks a shoulder in some spots.
